New Lifting Technology makes Rescue Simple and Safe

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. ? SMT Health Systems, Inc. recently unveiled an innovative new concept in rescue safety. The Volaro Rescue Lift? will revolutionize how first responders handle victims of an accidental fall. By mechanically lifting patients rather than lifting by hand, injuries due to lifting can be prevented in many instances.

The Volaro Rescue Lift? is compact and light enough for rescue personnel to easily carry to the scene. The Volaro Rescue Lift? is easy to set up in cramped locations such as a bathroom where falls are common. ?It is designed to lift a person that may be stuck between the toilet and the wall, one of the most difficult situations for rescue personnel,? said Keith LeCleir, President of SMT Health Systems, the manufacturer.

?We were approached by a Workman?s Comp carrier looking for a solution to reduce injuries to emergency personnel injured while rescuing fall victims in bathrooms. Lifting people from small areas creates a high probability of an injury due to the cramped environment and the awkward positions of the rescue personnel. Many times they are in a life and death situation requiring quick action without regard for the rescue team?s safety,? according to LeCleir.

?We need a way to protect rescue personnel from injury while on emergency calls!? stated Cheryl Brennan, Manager, Loss Control Services with Berkleyrisk Admin.

?Perhaps you can find a unique way to protect EMS workers like you did with your innovative products for our long term care clients!?

?That request started our creative energies going.? said LeCleir ?We have a culture of developing new products based on unmet needs of customers and colleagues. This problem got us really excited! We met with a group of EMS people to discuss ideas and they shared that they need a tool that is inexpensive, light weight, very simple, quick to use, compact, and can lift a 500 lb. person. The Volaro Rescue Lift? was born. We made it really simple and light weight. It sets up quickly in a bath room. Once the sling is positioned around the patient, the hand crank can safely lift the person off the floor. Transfer to conventional rescue equipment becomes possible without an injury.?

SMT Health Systems will showcase the Volaro Rescue Lift? at the EMS EXPO 2008, Georgia World Congress Center, Building C Atlanta, GA October 26 -30 2009.

SMT Health Systems is located at 1380 Legion Rd. in Detroit Lakes, MN 56501. You can learn more about the Volaro Rescue lift on line at www.smths.com or from Keith LeCleir by telephone (218) 847-3386. Email keithl@smths.com
